Hello,
Welcome back from what I believe has been an amazing weekend. Quick question- Did you attend the Push-To-Target Convention? I bet you had a lot of fun and learned a lot.
I had a fun weekend surfing the net and overdosing on my fair share of social media banters. Somehow, in the middle of that, I came across the image below. It came with a description that read “This Palm tree fell down and grew back up”.

The Resilient Palm Tree
This struck me! It was such a beautiful sight. There is absolutely no doubt that the palm tree is one of the strongest trees alive, I mean- have you seen them on the beach? The way they stand still against storms?
But this?!
This is extraordinary and it moved me to write to you about– Resilience.
Resilience is often described as the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape but more importantly, as the capacity to recover quickly from a difficult situation.
Many of us have gone through certain trials and circumstances that we wished we did not have to be in. These challenges often range from our finance, health, jobs, family, and most likely a general feeling of stagnation compared to many of our peers. While some of us may have found ways to navigate this, many are struggling to find their way back.
Oftentimes when faced with difficult situations, we instinctively react in any of the following ways. For instance, we tend to erupt with anger, implode with overwhelming negative emotions, go numb and become unable to react because of the disruptive change.
Sadly, all of these reactions are often counterproductive. One hardly gets any positive change that way.
In order to snap back, we need to cultivate a more positive attitude. We need to challenge ourselves to build our resilience like that of this very palm tree.
There is no situation so dire that you cannot overcome. All you need is a strong desire to turn your life around.
Here are 6 principles to guide you as you commence your journey to resilience
• Cultivate a Belief in Your Ability to Cope
• Stay Connected with a support system
• Talk About What You’re Going Through
• Be Helpful to Others
• Activate a Positive Emotion
• Cultivate an Attitude of Survivorship.
I leave you this week with the famous charge from the Destiny’s Child song Survivor
I’m a survivor
I’m not gon’ give up
I’m not gon’ stop
I’m gon’ work harder
I’m a survivor
I’m gonna make it
I will survive
Keep on survivin’
